About the Item

Original Vintage Poster-Malcles-La Baule-Bretagne-Golf-Tennis, 1959 La Baule appears in history as early as the 9th century under the name Escoublac. On two occasions, in the 15th century and then at the end of the 18th century, the village of Escoublac was moved and rebuilt after almost total destruction under the sands of the dune. At the start of the 19th century, visionary investors understood the potential of the bay of Pouliguen and its eight-kilometer long beach, between Pornichet and Le Pouliguen. They decide to fix the boles - these dune expanses then almost deserted -, to subdivide them and to create a seaside resort. La Baule was born, and the town will develop by allowing architects, such as Adrien Grave, Georges Lafont or Paul-Henri Datessen, to create an architectural heritage made up of villas and hotels in a mosaic of styles of neo-Gothic inspiration. or medieval, regionalist or resolutely futuristic. Some streets and some neighborhoods in the locality have retained the names of these investors, like André Pavie, Édouard Darlu, René Dubois, Jules Hennecart or Louis Lajarrige. The town, which was first called Escoublac then Escoublac-la-Baule, acquired its final name of La Baule-Escoublac on May 16, 1962, at a time when preference was given to housing on the seafront. collective, buildings gradually replacing villas. "La Baule" is the name used for the seaside resort in the 21st century.
