Original vintage advertising poster for shell Lubricating oils designed one of the most renowned poster artists of the 20th century Edward McKnight Kauffer (1890-1954). The eye-catching design shows a yellow can of Shell motor oil featuring a jointed artist's mannequin holding up the Shell logo on the front of the can in red, the title in stylised bold lettering on dynamic colourful ribbon-like shapes on the paintbrush style black background. Large size. Horizontal. Very good condition, restored tears, backed on linen.

Edward McKnight Kauffer
Edward McKnight Kauffer was an American artist and graphic designer. He lived in the UK from the outbreak of the First World War and is best known for the posters he designed for Shell Mex BP and his 140 London Underground posters. In 1940, Kauffer returned to the USA, where he struggled to obtain work until American Airlines took him on in 1947.
