Original vintage LNER railway travel advertising poster - Deeside Raising the standard at Braemar 1715 Travel from King's Cross London London and North Eastern Railway of England and Scotland - featuring an historical image by William Barnes Wollen (1857-1936) depicting a scene from the failed Jacobite Rising of 1715 of John Erskine the Earl of Mar (1675-1732) raising the standard flag at Braemar on 6 September in support of the effort to regain the throne for the House of Stuart (Prince James Francis Edward Stuart aka the Old Pretender; 1688-1766). Braemar is located on the River Dee in the Scottish Highlands near Balmoral Castle and is now also known as Royal Deeside since 1848 following a visit by Queen Victoria to the region. The London and North Eastern Railway operated train services from 1923-1948. Published by the London & North Eastern Railway. Printed by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son, London.
