Original US film poster from the 1951 film Pickup. Hugo Haas (1901-1968) was an acknowledged master of bad girl films. He was born in Czechoslovakia, where he was an actor before fleeing to America during the Nazi invasion. He began working as an announcer on US broadcasts to occupied Eastern Europe. After the war Haas resurrected his acting career, but found himself frequently typecast as a foreign villain, none the less acting did enable Haas to finance his first love - filmmaking. In the 1950s, he began making his own independent films, which he both starred in and directed. His sensationalist films followed the typical B-movie model. All his plots unfolded with the same general story line: a lonely middle-aged man (played by Haas) is seduced by a sexy blond with a bad reputation. This poster is in excellent condition with the colors remaining very bright. Very minor restoration to folds. This poster has been conservation Linen backed and would be shipped rolled in a strong tube.
