About the Item

Original Vintage Poster-Richard Ranft-Salon des Cent-The Feather, 1894 Poster for the 6th edition of the Salon des Cent in November 1894. A woman lying on a sofa is reading La Plume newspaper. The interior decorated with wallpaper with a white mice pattern is not present in this proof. The Salon des Cent (also known as "Salon de la Plume") is an exhibition of French art designed by Léon Deschamps, launched in Paris in February 1894 in the lobby of the journal La Plume. The idea was to exhibit and sell prints and drawings associated with the literary and artistic periodical. The last edition, the 53rd, took place in 1900. This exhibition hosted famous artists of the time including Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Henri-Gabriel Ibels, Alphonse Mucha, Eugène Grasset, Fernand-Louis Gottlob, Pierre Bonnard, Georges de Feure, Rene Lalique, Henri Matisse ... Richard Ranft started studying painting and drawing in Geneva. He then went to Paris, where he attended the studios of Gustave Courbet and Auguste Dumont, a sculptor who taught him the art of engraving. He then worked with La Plume for whom he produced vignettes and engravings. He also contributed to the Estampe Moderne ("L'Écuyère", 1897).
