Vintage Swiss Travel Poster, Zurich Lakeside Garden
About the Item
Original 1960’s travel poster for the Zurich Lakeside Garden, with a design based on his painting by Hugo Wetli. Wetli (1916-1972) was a Swiss painter, graphic designer, lithographer, and illustrator. He opened his own studio in 1956, working extensively with SwissAir as well as illustrating numerous travel books. Part of a series designed to promote popular tourist destinations in Switzerland. Lithograph on paper, 24” x 14”. In flat storage for the past 5 decades, so in excellent condition with bold, vibrant colors. Unframed.

Hugo Wetli
Hugo Wetli was born in 1916. After a draftsman apprenticeship in Bern and training as a graphic artist in Geneva, Wetli worked as a draftsman in a Bernese animation studio and from 1942 for the magazine of a Geneva-based company. From 1949–56 he directed the graphic workshop of the men's clothing company Frey in Olten. He then opened his studio and worked mainly for Swissair and other major companies such as the Swiss traffic center and the SBB. Working with the airline, Wetli has been allowed to travel overseas to the United States, South America, Asia and Africa. His passion for painting was discovered by the illustrator and graphic designer in the 1950s.
