Antique print titled 'Sr. Samuel Garth M.D.' Portrait of Sir Samuel Garth (1661-1719), an English physician and poet. Below the portrait are allegorical images related to medicine (a caduceus, books, and an image of an apothecary mixing medicine. Printed in London by J. & P. Knapton, 1748. Artists and Engravers: Jacobus Houbraken (1698-1780) was a Dutch engraver and the son of the artist and biographer Arnold Houbraken (1660–1719), whom he assisted in producing a published record of the lives of artists from the Dutch Golden Age. He produced a great number of book-illustrations in the taste of the time. He also engraved many portraits and some prints after contemporary masters. Condition: Good, given age. A stain in the lower edge of the image and another faint stain in the caption below the image. Margin edges a little browned. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
