Pair of Highly Carved Partially Stripped French Oak Cherub Brackets, C. 1850

About the Item

This pair of oak cherub brackets, or “consoles murale” originate from France and date to the mid-19th century. The intricate carvings adorning these marvels attest to the remarkable craftsmanship of their maker. Each corbel is fronted by an enchanting winged cherub holding a bouquet of flowers, their faces expressing pure and innocent joy. The partially stripped oak gives these brackets a unique character, showcasing the wonders of natural wood grain. Behind each cherub, a curled leaf is embellished by additional foliate details, elegantly mirroring the console background’s scrolled curves. A beautiful display of European skill and creativity, these oak cherub brackets will undoubtedly make a strong visual impact on any viewer.
