Alan S. Kushner Studio Craft Sculptural Wall Mirror

About the Item

Custom woodwork decorative wall mirror created by artist Alan S. Kushner of Philadelphia circa 1990. Signed "AK" carved on back of bottom triangle. Overall dimensions: 72 inches high by 46 inches wide by 5 inches deep. Framed mirror dimensions: 46 inches high by 24 inches wide by 5 inches deep. Please note that the artist's intention was for the mirror to be displayed with the zebra wood arrow on the bottom pointing downward and the 'fishtail' on top. We know this because on the backside of the mirror are two wedge cut blocks for mounting in a corresponding wall bracket or Z clip. For the purposes of our photography it was not possible to stand the mirror on the point so all our photos show it upside down. Alan Kushner (1949-2008) was a self-taught woodworker and furniture maker who exhibited his designs primarily in and around Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland during the 1980's and 1990's. In 1991 he participated in the summer exhibition "In Our Circle" at the James Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, PA. See artist's statement from that show in the last photo. In November of 1992 his work featured at Creative Visions, Lambertville, NJ "Design brought to light: New and Recent Light Forms by Christopher Darway, Charles Kumnick and Alan Kushner".

Iridescent Black Glazed Ceramic Decorative Sculptural Wall Mirror
By Jaye Kim
Located in New York, NY
One-of-a-kind hand-built glazed ceramic decorative wall mirror, 'Moonlight (Black)' by contemporary ceramicist and artist Jaye Kim. This surrealistic wall mirror is sculpted in the form of a bouquet of flowers against a mirror, which provides small glimpses of the viewer through the glossy black abstracted leaves, petals and stems. The piece features hand-carved patterning along the sides as well as a signature and date by the artist. Fitted with a French cleat on the back for easy installation, this piece would be a charming addition to any wall. About the Artist: Jaye Kim is a Korean-American ceramic artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Her ceramic work is an exploration of her interior world regarding the symbolism and rituals of motherhood. Depicting the mundane objects Kim interacts with daily in large scale, from cups and saucers to skin care face masks and cabbages, the ordinary is transformed into the interpersonal. In her oversized hand built vessels, surface details derived from her coiling and pinching...
