About

Roman marble inscription, dating to the 1st century AD. A finely carved six-line inscription, reading: “To the spirit of the departed: Lucius Axilius Parthenopaeus, to his excellent daughter Axsilia Tigris, who lived 21 years, 6 months.” Provenance: Probably from Ostia. Recorded by C.L. Viscontio whilst in the suburbs of Rome in the diocese of Bartolomeo Pacca (27 December 1756 - 19 February 1844). Subsequently in the collection of Dr. G.K., Munich, acquired 1960s or earlier. Published: Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum, vol. XIV. Inscriptiones Latii veteris Latinae. Edidit H. Dessau. 1887. No. 681.
