Bronze Arrow by Taher Asad-Bakhtiari and Fonderia Artistica Battaglia

About the Item

Asad-Bakhtiari, of Iranian tribal origins and interested in astrology, has always been fascinated by the idea of arrows and their power. Through them, he explores various life objectives. The bronze sculpture is a reinterpretation of one of the arrows that he designed for the Met Bauer in New York. To create the work, Asad-Bakhtiari casted and sacrificed a wool work to create the mould of the sculpture. The bronze arrow is a vision from Achaemenid Empire times, it evokes a tribal speech and soldiery reminiscence. In previous works, made of woven wool, one can see repetitions of triangles and lines, whereby he takes the representations out of the boxed frames, and now the frames are gone and the same geometrics are used in different ways.

  • Small Square #7 by Taher Asad-Bakhtiari
    By Taher Asad-Bakhtiari
    Located in Pireaus-Athens, Greece
Taher Asad-Bakhtiari (b. 1982, Tehran) is a self - taught artist whose approach focuses on experimentations on objects and textiles to create and reinvent techniques and uses. He has developed several bodies of work including The Tribal Weave Project that breaks hundreds of years of weaving traditions. He re-created pieces that take on new functions as wall partitions, wall coverings, furniture spreads, challenging in their sweep the orthodox notion that “kilims and gabbehs are for the floor.” His work has been shown in several international exhibitions, including the Met (New York), Carwan Gallery (Beirut), Wallpaper Middle East Revealed, Qattan Foundation (London), and Katara Art Centre (Doha). Woven by semi-nomadic tribal women using entirely natur ally-dyed, hand-spun wool, each piece can require up to four months to create, depending on size. Unlike the traditional Iranian carpet...

  • "Father, Son and Daughter, " Rare and Charming Bronze Relief Sculpture by Zorach

    Located in Philadelphia, PA
Beautifully sculpted and realized in bronze with a warm, deep brown patina, this relief panel by William Zorach depicts a father directly facing the viewer, embracing his son and daughter who are both engrossed in the care of a long-tailed bird. Zorach was renowned for his sculptures of the American family in different configurations, and he also loved depicting the house cat in different poses, all of which gave evidence of his love of domestic life in the 1930s. The artist was born in Lithuania, grew up in Cleveland, and spent much of his life in New England with his wife, Marguerite Zorach, an important artist in her own right. Although Zorach was a painter as well as a sculptor, he may be best known for a large female nude...
