Ceramic Wall Sculpture: 'Leaf' / By Olivia Barry

Olivia Barry is a ceramic artist and designer in New York's Hudson Valley. Trained in both Industrial Design and Ceramics, she apprenticed the designer Eva Zeisel for 15 years and has designed dinnerware for UK Manufacturer Royal Stafford among others. Olivia Barry / By Hand is her own ceramic studio where she challenges the materials to create unique, inventive lighting and artwork. Her pieces are unique, moody, and evocative of the natural world. Each piece is made by Olivia, By Hand. The Scroll Collection of Luminaires and Sconces is Olivia’s solution to the challenge of creating lighting without lampshades. The curved ceramic shape hides the bulb while projecting dimmable, ambient light. This collection of lighting and artwork is serene and meditative; evocative of the shapes and patterns of the natural world. Artwork includes her original idea of "Ceramic Paintings". These are large clay canvases, incorporating stained clay Nerikomi techniques and inventive use of glazes to create abstract expressionist pieces that can be grouped together to form large installations. Wall pieces are mounted to a simple circular version of a french bracket so that they can be installed simply and interchangeably.
