Exceptional Rare Framed Lee Rosen Architectural Tiles

About the Item

Introducing an extraordinary treasure from the annals of mid-century modern design—an exceptional framed collection of 36 architectural ceramic tiles by the revered Lee Rosen for Design-Technics, USA circa1950s. This is a rare ensemble, each piece a testament to the era's ingenuity and Rosen's distinctive artistic vision. These are not merely tiles but sculptural elements, each imbued with an intense textural depth that plays with the ambient light to reveal the dynamic contours. Aptly titled “Light and Shadow”. The unglazed ceramic terracotta tiles, with its subtle variations in earthy terra-cotta tones, showcases the natural beauty and integrity of the clay. This exquisite assembly has been previously meticulously mounted and framed in a rich walnut, honoring the organic materiality of the tiles. The versatility of the framed sculpture allows for horizontal or vertical placement, adapting effortlessly to the design needs of a sophisticated contemporary interior or a collector’s curated space. (Originally designed to be displayed horizontally.) Measuring 53 inches in width, 27 inches in height, and with a depth of 1 inch, it commands attention and admiration as a focal point in any room. Each tile, measuring 8.75 inches by 4.25 inches, comes together to form a collective narrative—a story of texture, form, and the interplay of light that is as relevant today as it was in the 1950s. Accompanied by images from the Design Technics catalog, this collection offers a rare glimpse into the history of design. To find a single one of these tiles is a rarity; to encounter a complete set of 36 is truly exceptional. The rarity of finding such a large, intact grouping from this period makes this piece exceptionally valuable. This framed sculpture is in very good vintage condition. A fine hairline crack on one tile, discreetly located on the bottom, sixth from the left. This slight imperfection does not detract from the piece's impact but rather adds to the narrative of its journey through time. This is a singular opportunity to own a piece of mid-century modern history, to integrate a Lee Rosen original into your curated collection of design and art. Whether gracing the wall of a contemporary loft or anchoring the decor in a traditional home, this framed tile sculpture promises to be a conversation piece, an enduring symbol of mid-century artistry.
