About the Item
Title: BLOOD WAVE, 2022, Marie Beckman (b. 1960, SWE),
Hand cast and glazed stoneware clay mounted on anodized aluminum.
This large piece was commissioned and took almost a year to realize from idea to finished product. Finding the right glaze took around six months. It is made in three sections and consists of over 250 hand cast and glazed stoneware pieces attached to three separate anozided aluminum plates. The plates slide together seamlessly onto a steel fixture.
The sheen and color saturation of each piece varies slightly due to where the pieces were placed inside the kiln.
Originally this form was made as a 1 x 4 m (3.3 x 13 ft) public commission for a Swedish hospital in white.
Work by Marie Beckman can also be ordered on commission in other colors.
