Antique Victorian Onyx and Rose Gold Bangle
About the Item
This stunning antique piece was crafted sometime during the Victorian design period (1840-1900). Bold step cut onyx encompass the entire length of the bangle. The setting was crafted from 14K Victorian rose gold. Victorian rose gold is typically a bit softer in hue and more subtle than modern rose gold. This exceptional antique piece was most likely worn as mourning jewelry, a truly fascinating genre of antique jewelry. During the Victorian Era mourning attire was a particular etiquette practiced after the death of a family member and especially after the death of a spouse. Women were expected to adhere to strict rules on what colors, fabrics, and jewelry they wore during the mourning period. For the death of a husband this mourning period could last years. Queen Victoria wore mourning attire for 40 years after the death of her beloved husband. During the deep mourning period jewelry was not worn, after some time pearls, onyx, gold, and garnet were acceptable wear. This gorgeous onyx bangle features precise details and easy to use push button clasp along with safety chain. Slightly smaller than average, this bangle bracelet measures for a wrist approximately 6 & 1/2 inches or smaller.
