Giuliano Natural Pearl Diamond and Enamel Bangle
About the Item
Here we have a exquisite, enamelled gem set bangle by Carlo Giuliano. Giuliano was renowned for his beautifully detailed enamel work and use of unusual gemstone combinations with this piece being no exception.
A large domed natural pearl possessing a lovely level of lustre sits at the centre of the face and is flanked on either by a single chunky old cut diamond. The entire frame of the piece has been pervaded with meticulous geometric patterns in gold, white and black enamel. This hinged bangle is finished with Giuliano's mark on the inside and safety chain.
Giuliano came to London in about 1860. Little biographical detail is known of him prior to this except that he very likely trained under and worked for Castellani in Rome.
Once settled, he set up a workshop to manufacture jewellery at 13 Frith Street in Soho likely in collaboration with Castellani.
Giuliano passed away at his home in Maida Vale in 1895 and left his business jointly to his two sons Carlo and Arthur who he had ensured were trained and capable of continuing the Giuliano name and reputation.
