La Nouvelle Bague Bangle with Diamonds and Enamel Ball in 18K Gold & Sterling
About the Item
La Nouvelle Bague (LNB), founded in Florence in the late 1970's by the husband-and-wife team of Leopoldo and Lea Poldi, was devoted to Florentine craftsmanship, especially enamel work. Mr. Poldi worked with the best Italian metalsmiths to develop his layered enameling techniques with an eye to creating permanent and wearable pieces of art.
The 1990's were the heyday for the Poldis and their company. Inspired by art and history, steeped in the craftsmanship traditions of Florence, LNB made incredible, individualistic designs like the bracelet you see here. The enamel ball hinge, in deepest green with a layer of gold "pebbles" is referenced with a whimsical Mini Me version in perforated rose gold. A spattering of green enamel "confetti" adorns one side of the bracelet near the clasp. These kinds of details are so utterly charming and so antithetical to most of the design-by-committee jewelry we see today.
The ball hinge is flanked on one side by a band of white gold pavé set with 24 clean, full cut diamonds. Based on the age of the bracelet, we can confidently guarantee these diamonds are natural (i.e., earth-mined) stones, and we rate them at least G-H color and VS2 clarity, with a total estimated weight of approximately one quarter of a carat.
The bracelet opens and closes with the push of a button, then turns on the hinge concealed inside the big green enamel ball.
The ball is enamel and gold over sterling silver. All other components are 18 karat gold.
