A Late Nineteenth Century Gold and Garnet Bangle
About the Item
A late nineteenth-century gold and garnet bangle, the geometrical designed bangle centrally with the two gold cubes each set with a round carbuncle garnet, to a split yellow gold hinged bangle with concealed hinged clasp and safety chain, all in yellow gold with matt finish, circa 1870, internal diameter measuring approximately 5.8 x 5.1cm, gross weight 52 grams.
This bold and geometric bracelet comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. It was made in the late nineteenth century and features an intriguing and sophisticated design. A split yellow gold bangle holds two golden cubes, into which each is set with a glowing cabochon-cut garnet. The geometric shapes give this bracelet a surprisingly modern appearance, while the combination of garnet and yellow gold is wonderfully Victorian. A splendid piece.
