About the Item

I created the EXPANSION. FLUID cuff in several evenings needing to relax, have peace of mind, and take a moment of rest from metal fabrication. Sitting at my bench with jewelers wax and a small flame lamp, I heated my steel wax tool and dipped it in the wax to create this cuff drop by drop. The pattern came from a drawing I created on wood months before, and wax was dropped directly, flowing into organic textures. As I created this piece I was reminded of childhood memories of being in awe of intertwining tree roots in Prospect Park, Brooklyn and discovering little creeks in small places that now flow in this ethereal cuff. Elegant and mesmerizing, this cuff drips in serenity and refinement. The EXPANSION.FLUID Cuff pairs beautifully with the FLUID.SOAR earrings, both capturing moments of childhood bliss in nature. This cuff fits a variety of wrist sizes. Please open slightly to slide over wrist. Please do not open back and forth over and over. Each piece is made with care in my Brooklyn jewelry studio, slight variations may occur due to being handcrafted. This piece is created in wax, casted locally in NYC, finished and polished in my jewelry studio. Please allow 1-2 weeks for creation in addition to shipping times. My life with jewelry and adornment started at thirteen, when I found peace and joy during constant turbulence through bead work. I would start a small business while in high school dreaming of learning more but life had other plans. Eventually, while living in Trenton, NJ a few fellow artists reminded me to start even if wasn't the perfect time. I decided to return to NYC, make the plunge and immerse myself in this art form and adventure of metal smithing and design. I thought after my bench jeweler program I would launch a brand, understand myself as an artist and business. Instead I found myself enclosed in my studio spending years experimenting. In these times of exploration and frustration I had piles of bits of melted pieces, and found relief in melting down silver, having my flame ripple across, embracing melted textures and finding ways to combine my love of glamour and cascading fringe with earthy textures. My work is built on learning to embrace the process while learning and exploring the history of adornment which is human history. I enjoy the human aspect of my work, from combining the beautiful stones from my favorite stone cutters and explorers, to how it feels on the skin and being awed how each client transforms one of my jewels into their history and life. My studio is based in my birth place, Brooklyn NYC. Wonderfully near the places I use to dig up rocks and get my hands full of dirt and dream of collecting amber and my birth stone, Alexandrite. Dreams do come true. Robin Erfe's designs and creative process is founded on a love for creating beauty, protecting, and adorning the body in elegance while being influenced by the various twists, textures, and imagination of nature, NYC streets, and her Caribbean and Southeast Asian heritage. She began as a child building from cardboard, plastic from discarded envelopes, collecting rocks, being mesmerized by beads, to finally continuing her education at the bench jewelers program at Studio Jewelers, Inc in NYC. Here is where she found her love for melting and fabricating art and adornment in metal. Based in Brooklyn, Robin focuses on handcrafted techniques, creating one of a kind pieces and limited edition collections. Her work showcases hand fabricated chains, precious and exquisite stones from select stone cutters, and a love for hand hammered fringe and melted metal. Her studio companion is Coco, a sassy and divine feline, along with a strong brewed cup of cafe con leche, a rotating selection of salsa dura, dembow, soul, and rock n roll within walls covered covered with sketches being revised at any given moment or becoming a new idea on her bench and soldering station.
