About the Item

If you're like me (uh, I hope not), you devour even the smallest, pettiest detail of England's royal family. How small and petty you ask? Well. When Lady Diana debuted her engagement ring, the large oval sapphire was held in place by a pair of prongs in each corner. However, several years later half-a-dozen more prongs were added. You see, I'm not really interested in the eating habits or social diaries of the royal family; I am interested in how they modify and in many cases up-cycle their jewelry. They are all of them busy little beavers when it comes to jewelry upcycling. One of the queen's favorite brooches was once part of a stomacher worn by Queen Mary. The royal family have never been shy about popping diamonds out of that dusty old diadem and using them as side stones in a new ring or as earring dangles. All of which might explain my deep regard for this lovely 18K rose gold cuff bracelet. The focal point is a late Georgian/early Victorian plaque of excruciatingly-fine workmanship consisting of a7mm x 5.5mm oval rose-cut diamond in raised collet setting with crimped edges. Eight smaller and similarly set diamonds surround the stone like the petals of sa flower. This floral motif is carried through the rest of the design where each corner of the rectangular plaque is adorned with three raised leaves (walnut tree?), each set with a single-cut diamond. A single rose-cut diamond in its own collet-setting is positioned at each of compass points. Twenty-six diamonds in total, all of which are set in silver atop a black enameled background with yellow gold leaves exposed and gleaming. Was this once the centerpiece of a necklace or a brooch? Perhaps a bracelet or a fur clip? We can only guess and marvel at what a spectacularly modern cuff bracelet it makes. The cuff has an interior diameter of approximately 44.5mm with a 28mm opening. If you were to squash the cuff flat it would be 139.7mm in length. So it's going to fit a petite wrist.
