Sterling Silver Cuff with Five Blue Gem Turquoise Stones

About the Item

This is a collaborative piece by Guy Hoskie and Bruce Eckhardt. The silverwork was done by Guy Hoskie and the stones were sourced, cut, and polished by Bruce Eckhardt. The stamped and applique 1” sterling silver cuff has five Blue Gem Turquoise, the largest 1” x 5/8”. The inside of the cuff is 5 3/4” with a 1 1/4” gap. The Blue Gem mine, which is no longer active, produced a great variety of turquoise, from intense blue to deep green with an irregular matrix. The Blue Gem mine, which began production in 1934 yielded the most valuable Blue Gem turquoise because of its rich color and hardness. Of the several Nevada mines that are named Blue Gem, this is the largest and most famous. Blue Gem turquoise tends to form in very thin slab forms rather than the typical nugget. The mine is now closed. Today, Bruce Eckhardt’s jewelry is a marriage of his love for the feel of stone and bright colors in his paintings. Eckhardt chooses rare, high-grade stones to create his stunning pieces, which highlight the inherent beauty of the materials he uses while offering customers a piece that feels utterly close to nature. He uses only the highest quality stones in his jewelry, and has an amazing eye for style and jewelry design. Navajo silversmith Guy Hoskie resides in Arizona. He has been an amazing silversmith for many years, creating jewelry since the early 1990’s. Brother-in-law to Sunshine Reeves and related to Andy Cadman, Guy learned right along with these other award-winning Navajo silversmiths. They all exhibit certain similarities in their work; Navajo revival style. Hoskie’s works are usually covered end to end in beautiful deep Navajo hand stamped designs (much like that of the Cadman’s and Reeves’). He adds a dark oxidation to the finished piece to give it the old pawn look. #J1707 @ G
