This is a stunning early antique French Georgian - Napoleon III Bracelet with a spectacular Pinchbeck center clasp set with White Agate gems with a four strand faceted white agate bead band. The translucent stones are magnificent when held to the light, their colors maximized by the beautiful pinchbeck framework. The bracelet is an exquisite example of early antique jewelry artisanry. The wonderful leaf forms with the cut down collets holding the translucent white agates create a fabulous French mystique. The bracelet dates to the early to mid 19th century, circa 1800-1850. When worn the bracelet is just a magical jewel. Pinchbeck is a gold-like metal. It appears to be gold in every respect and keeps its color with no loss, fading or darkening. It was far superior to gold plate or gilded metal that followed later. Pinchbeck existed only a short period of time and became, therefore, a rare metal and important part of jewelry history. It is in many cases as expensive as gold. The bracelet is 8 inches (20cm) long. The center medallion is 2 inches (52mm) long and 1 inch (28mm) wide. The bracelet weighs 55 grams.
