Vintage Chinese 14k Gold & Jade Bracelet with Auspicious Sanxing Characters
About the Item
A fine Chinese gold & jade bracelet.
In 14k yellow gold and green jade (nephrite).
From "new" old stock from a jewelry store that closed in the 1970s.
With 4 curved jade segments each separated by gold chain links with 4 Chinese characters.
The characters correspond to the names of the Three Stars (Sanxing, 三星), the 3 essential planetary gods of Chinese astrology and mythology.
The 3 gods are the embodiments of different concepts: Fu (福) for fortune/good luck, Lu (祿) for status/prosperity, and Shou (壽) for longevity. In modern Chinese culture, these concepts still define the 3 attributes of a good life. The fourth character 全 has a meaning of entire or complete, likely as an auspicious blessings that the wearer's life be entirely filled with good luck, prosperity, and longevity.
