This brooch has a very special history.
South Limburg (Netherlands) was liberated in the middle of September 1944 by soldiers of the first American army (Old Hickory division; 30th inf div.)
At Rimburg, (oktober 1944) these men entered Germany to surround Aachen (Aachen was the first city to fall into Allied hands 21 0ktober 1944)
Near Nieuwenhagen, a group of young children walked along a platoon of US soldiers, suddenly one of these soldiers leaves the group and goes to the group of children. He gives a cardboard box with this brooch to a 12 year old girl from this group. Without saying a word, he returns to his comrades. The girl keeps this little gem in his box all her life as a reminder of the liberation of our region, thinking that the brooch is made of bronze!
After her death, the two daughters find out that these brooch is made from gold and an original piece of signed art from Paris around 1900.
