About the Item
22 Karat Yellow Gold Spiral Brooch by Romae Jewelry Inspired by Ancient Designs. Our gorgeous Karpathia brooch features the iconic spiral motif that was so influential in ancient Minoan and Mycenaean art. Believed to represent waves, the theme is found on vase paintings and wall paintings throughout the Aegean Bronze Age, such as the Dolphin Fresco from the Palace at Knossos on Crete (c. 1500 BC). Our brooch is based on an ancient jewel dating to the sixth century BC and today housed in the Villa Giulia Museum in Rome.
Each piece of Romae jewelry is inspired by an ancient example, and is carefully designed and lovingly crafted in Rome by archaeologist and museum specialist Cris and artist Elena. Our pieces are made to order, and each is individually cast, hand finished and personalized, which allows for freedom of stone choice and special tailoring such as inscriptions and engravings. When shipped, each piece of Romae jewelry arrives with a product card that provides information about the culture, date, and find spot of the original piece of jewelry that inspired our design. Lead time 4 - 5 weeks.
