About the Item

A stunning, fine and impressive 4.61 carat diamond and a total of 4.68 carat natural ruby, sapphire and emerald, giardinetti/tutti frutti style, platinum brooch; part of our vintage jewelry and estate jewelry collections This impressive vintage giardinetti/tutti frutti brooch has been modelled in platinum in the form of a floral arrangement sitting within a curved vase. Each flower is represented by individual, claw set, transitional modern brilliant round cut and marquise cut diamonds and a combination of seventeen mixed oval, round cut rubies and sapphires of various sizes. The convex shaped floral design is further embellished with six claw set, step cut emeralds. The semi-circular shaped vase is embellished with claw set transitional modern brilliant round cut diamonds. The geometric vase base is accented with a feature baguette cut diamond to the centre flanked by four transitional modern brilliant round cut diamonds graduating in size. This impressive multi-gem brooch is fitted with a hinged pin and clip fastening to the reverse. Although crafted during the 1940's, this vintage brooch draws upon the distinctive 'giardinetti'* or 'Tutti Frutti'** styles that emerged during the 18th century and Art Deco periods respectively; in which precious stones of contrasting colours such as rubies, emeralds, sapphires and diamonds were used. This 1940’s example of tutti frutti jewellery is supplied with an independent diamond grading report card. This floral brooch has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as platinum. NOTES: *Giardinetti - may be literally interpreted as 'little garden' **Cartier, who created the style, nicknamed it Tutti Frutti because he thought the colours mixed together resembled fruit salad. "Rather than regarding inclusions in coloured stones as harmful, in small sizes and numbers that do not in any way detract from their beauty, they should be regarded as adding to desirability, for they provide identifying characteristics."
