American 1890 Art Nouveau Enamel Brooch In 14Kt Gold With Diamonds And Pearls
About the Item
Art nouveau enameled brooch with gemstones.
Beautiful antique brooch, created during the art nouveau period in Newark United States, dating back 1890. This rare piece has been crafted with intricate details and curvilinear patterns in solid yellow gold of 14 karats. Embellished with applications of glossy greens and pinks hot enamels and accented with an arrangement of three white round pearls and three rose cut diamonds. It is fitted at the reverse with a hinged horizontal bar and a security hook to wear as a brooch. An alternative hook to hang into a chain or a little pocket watch.
Pearls: Accented with 3 semi round white pearls, graduated between 2 to 5.7 mm
Diamonds: Mounted in prongs settings, with 3 old European rose cut diamonds, 0.15 carats, F color, VS/SI clarity.
Weight: 6.65 Grams, (4.26 Dwt.).
Measurements: 31 mm by 26 mm (1.22 x 1.02 Inches).
Hallmarks: Stamped with the mark for the assay of the gold and Inscribed with inventory serial numbers, "27219 14KT". In addition was electronically tested for 14kt gold.
Art Nouveau Jewelry
Or the so called new art jewelry was created in France between about 1895 and 1910, coming on the heels of the “overwrought” designs of the Victorian era (which ended with Queen Victoria's death in 1901) and creating a striking contrast to the mainstream Edwardian designs of that time. While jewelry with a similar aesthetic was being made in other countries during the same time period--for example, Jugendstil in Germany and Austria--true Art Nouveau jewelry is decidedly extended in France. It was a short-lived period in jewelry design, lasting only about 15 years, because of the onset of World War I and because the pieces were so over-the-top that people quickly lost interest in them. Characterized by lavish and organic ornamentation, the Art Nouveau movement blossomed in Vienna at the turn of the 20th Century, with influential Austrians architects Otto Wagner and Adolf Loos making significant architectural contributions that helped shape the city's skyline as we see it today. Rene Lalique, was the most celebrated art nouveau designer, championed jewelry designer.
