Antique 1.77ct Diamond, Enamel and Platinum Horse and Huntsman Brooch

About the Item

A stunning, fine and impressive antique 1.77 carat diamond, enamel and platinum horse and huntsman brooch; part of our diverse antique equestrian jewellery collections. This stunning, fine and impressive brooch has been crafted in platinum. The hexagonal framed brooch portrays a huntsman on horseback, jumping a fence. The horse is embellished with seventeen pavé set diamonds, in a combination of Old European and eight cuts. The three-dimensional rider is dressed in traditional fox hunting attire, incorporating a hot enamelled red hunting coat, white breeches and black boots and hat. The scene of the brooch incorporates a fence design embellished with thirteen channel set baguette cut diamonds, replicating the posts and rails. The stone wall and stylised foliated designs to one side are further ornamented with Old European, eight and square cut diamonds, in a combination of collet and pavé settings. This horse brooch secures to the reverse with a hallmarked 18ct white gold hinged pin and safety catch. The brooch is hallmarked to the pin with the 18ct mark (18) and the reverse of the setting with the platinum mark (PT) and the maker's mark (A&W); the hallmark is struck to an applied plaque, indicating the high quality of the piece. This antique hunting brooch is supplied with an IDGL diamond grading report card. Such brooches featuring a full figure, straddling the horse with visibility from both sides, are becoming increasingly difficult to locate; this desirable three-dimensional design indicates the high quality of the piece. This enamel and diamond horse and hunstman brooch is a highly desirable and collectable design and can be considered a work of art in its own right. Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual colour and showcases each stone. Condition This antique 1910's horse and rider brooch is exceptional quality, set with high colour graded diamonds displaying a fine white colour and brilliance. The antique brooch is an exceptional gauge of platinum and is in exceptional condition, with very clear hallmarks to the reverse of the setting. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of hunting related jewellery/estate jewelry. By David Webb
    Located in New York, NY
This is an exciting horse head brooch with white enamel and featuring (1) emerald eye and (34) round diamonds. Measuring about 6cm long. Fastens with a double stem pin. Brooches and pins experienced a strong comeback in 2020 and 2021 bringing a touch of vintage and sophistication to almost every ensemble. Both men and women appeared wearing brooches in Hollywood and Canes, embellishing almost all thinkable and unthinkable garment parts. The adventurous Webb’s designs were based on ancient Greek, Roman, Egyptian, pre-Columbian, Indian and Chinese civilizations. Such inspiration he got staying in the Metropolitan Museum of Art for hours. His bold use of color utilized oversized pieces of coral, turquoise and jade, as well as ruby and emerald beads...
