About the Item
Up for your consideration is this exceptional Italian micromosaic brooch circa 1850's.
This extraordinary miniature work of art is exceptional in its craftmanship and details from the shading of the bull to the highlights of the horns.
At the center is a round plaque with a majestic bull adorned with a halo in three quarter profile with an upturned hoof.
In evangelical art, Saint Luke is often depicted by the symbol of an ox, bull, representing service and sacrifice. This is a very rare depiction to find in a micromosaic brooch.
The mosaic is surrounded in 18k rose-yellow gold with four decorative shell mounts and a c-clasp pin back closure.
This is truly a rare and unusual piece that would make an excellent addition to any collection.
Unmarked. It has been tested and verified as 18k gold.
