Antique Black Jet 14K Gold Mourning Stick Pins
About the Item
These antique 19th century stick pins are made of black jet and adorned with 14 karat gold cannetille work. The black stone rests on an engraved rosette. The pin itself is gilded and beautifully twisted from top to bottom.
These stick pins represent a varied and rich historical Dutch cultural heritage, worn by women in some parts of the Netherlands when they were in mourning. It was part of the regional mourning costume. They were worn in pairs and were pushed backwards into the hat above the forehead.
The pins are in antique condition, with normal surface wear from previous use. One pin misses some cannetille work on top.
