Antique Platinum Art Deco Diamond and Onyx Brooch, c.1920's
About the Item
This sublime Art Deco brooch is new to our collection. Beautifully set with a stunning selection of Rose Cut, Eight Cut and Old European Cut diamonds totalling an estimated five carats, this breathtaking piece has been carefully handcrafted in Platinum, a choice of metal synonymous with 1920s and 30s luxury jewellery.
The detailing on this brooch is simply exquisite. An Onyx outline carefully traces the middle of the brooch, giving the design sleek definition, while the diamonds are carefully grain set in platinum. The brooch is delicately finished with a milgrained edge, and the quality of the craftsmanship is just unparalleled, even down to the hand-engraved design motifs on the back of the brooch.
This brooch is in an incredible condition for a piece of its age, with wear consistent of its nearly 100 years. A small section of chipping to the Onyx in one of the corners is evident only under magnification, and is expected for fine antique jewellery. The total weight of the brooch is 15.9 grams and it is stamped 950 (for Platinum). It measures approximately 6.7cm in length, 2.6cm in width, and approximately 1cm in depth (including the fastening), and fastens securely with a standard brooch bar and clasp.
