About the Item
Extraordinary antique custom made goddess 'Erato' sardonyx shell cameo brooch or pendant with retractable bail (goddess 'Erato' was the muse of lyric and love poetry) - the cameo carved in deep relief and high contrast exposing the rust/brown background (the most desirable and rarest of shell cameos) - the hand carved cameo is bezel set - contained in an intricately tooled 10K yellow gold frame and finished with a twisted rope detail - original pin/hinge and early safety catch - signed (see last photo - unidentified maker) - cameo carved in Italy - gold setting likely American - circa 1900.
Excellent/mint antique condition - hand made with minor signs of age and use - all original - no loss - no damage - no repairs - ready to wear.
