About the Item
An antique Victorian Dutch 14 karat yellow gold pendant/brooch made with filigree technique. The filigree technique is a very refined method that uses a thin golden thread to form a lace-like pattern and fine embroidery. Each item features very sophisticated floral filigree and granule decoration and it is finished with tassels at the bottom. The brooch/pendant are made of 14 karat yellow gold (585/1000). The closure is stamped with an oak leaf that is an antique Dutch mark for the 14 karat /585 gold content. The item was also acid tested for 14 karat/585 gold content. The brooch is in good antique condition and it will be delivered in a jewelry gift box.
Originally, this brooch/pendant was a hat bell worn in traditional Dutch costume in a province called Zeeland around 1900. The hat bells were attached to an under cap, and this was worn (in combination with more expensive clothes) on Sundays only. Because this is no longer common, and these antique hat bells remain beautiful pieces of jewelry, they are re-used to make earrings, chain pendants, or brooches.
