Antique Victorian hairwork mourning brooch
About the Item
An elaborate and delicate antique, Victorian mourning brooch
Made from carefully woven hair it is a fanned bow shape with a teardrop to the lower half.
The brooch has a central gilt metal shield shaped cartouche for engraving with initials but it is currently blank.
It is has a replacement fastener, gold tone metal with a safety clasp, appears fairly new.
Unmarked, c1870s.
Condition:
Fair used condition overall, some light wear to the hairwork, fraying and a small split to the base of the teardrop, replacement fastener.
