Citrine and Diamond Retro Leaf Brooch, Sasportas, France, 1960s
About the Item
A citrine and diamond retro leaf brooch made by Sasportas, France, ca. 1960s. The Madeira citrines have a very appealing colour and are beautifully combined with round brilliant cut diamonds and yellow gold to produce a very strong geometric, yet natural design. The brooch has the makers mark SAS for Sasportas, as well as French gold and platinum assay marks.
The French maison Sasportas has won the gold medal in the Exhibition of Decorative Arts in 1925 and is known for producing fine jewels with geometric elements and combining different gemstones. It was also used as a workshop by other French jewellery houses such as Cartier and Van Cleef and Arpels - a very similar citrine and diamond leaf brooch by Cartier exists and hence the above listed brooch can be attributed to Cartier.
