These pearls are especially prized for the way their growth creates a “flame structure” in their surface. The best pearls have this structure easily visible against a well saturated pink background. This set was acquired by the team behind Gem Bleu as a piece from the estate of Constance Barber Mellon and Constance “Connie” Prosser Mellon, mother and daughter from the prominent Pennsylvania banking family behind the Mellon Trust Bank and Carnegie Mellon University. The pearls in this set are all beautiful pinks with stunning saturation and visible flame structure. We believe this piece is from Constance Barber Mellon, as she was well known to love more classic styling and pieces.
