Brooch Coral Branch with Sapphires & Diamonds

About the Item

This antique coral and sapphire brooch is triking and quite unique; a bit eccentric but natural, organic, and elemental. A 60 mm tall, 61 mm wide branch of natural angel skin coral wears six 2 mm wide solid gold shackles, to which is attached a royal blue natural sapphire hand-carved into a fruit & leaf form that dangles freely from a hoop. On the two shackles which surround the main trunk of the coral branch is a rectangular box of white gold set with two tiny old-cut diamonds. A brooch pin is found on the reverse but no hallmarks or maker's marks anywhere. Seaman Schepps created a similar brooch with similarly carved sapphires. The sapphires —approximately 6.70 carats of them— are very high quality with excellent saturation and clarity as well. Carved sapphires frequently lack the clarity these gems display which makes this brooch exceptionally beautiful. The gold has deepened over time and a rich, warm yellow. The coral is so highly polished it at first looks to be porcelain. Only when the brooch is in your hand can you see it is, in fact, a gem from the sea. A substantial, unusual and beautiful brooch equally suitable for a man or a woman.

  • Coral Ring with Diamonds, Midcentury

A gleaming lipstick red cabochon of natural precious coral is claw-set into a hand-fabricated 18K white gold mounting in this midcentury ring. Three eye-clean and near-colorless diamonds are set on either side like parenthesis and weigh around .35 carats in total. Measuring 22mm x 12mm, the coral is a stunning, evenly-toned vivid lipstick red with the high-gloss polish of a grand piano. This is a bold, impeccably crafted ring is so perfectly chic. This is a pristine cabochon of coral in the most prized color coral is found in and without any trace of a bluish tint. This color and quality of coral is becoming more elusive by the day. The rich red coral you see here comes from coral branches that are close to the surface of the warm waters off the coast of Italy. It's this coral that has been largely over-harvested. As a result, most of the coral must today be brought up from deeper water and it does not possess this intense red color. This is a truly remarkable ring, not merely for its beauty and vintage character but also because of its immaculate condition. This magnificent gem-quality red coral ring with...
