About the Item

This is a spectacular flower maiden brooch in enamel with rose cut diamonds in 18 Karat gold by Golay & Fils of Geneva, Switzerland. A beautiful maiden is set within a vivid red flower. Around her is a garland of flowers set with rose cut diamonds. The enamel work is of the highest quality. The hand painted face of the maiden and her hair are absolutely gorgeous. The flower garland set with diamonds is delicate and radiant. The red flower dramatic and lush. Golay & Fils are a preeminent Swiss Jeweler and the firm dates to 1837. They are renowned for their Swiss Enamel work. The flower maiden is a masterpiece of jewelry design. It dates to the Art Nouveau to Belle Epoque period, circa 1860 - 1910. The brooch has extensive hallmarks: A. GOLAY L. & FILS, GENEVE, 4953, BREVETE The brooch is 1 1/8 inches (30mm) in diameter. It weighs 7.6 grams. The brooch has a fitting on the reverse through which a pendant loop could be attached by a jeweler. There is a small surface chip in the enamel at 4 o'clock. This is almost impossible to see when looking at the brooch. We have decided to keep this very rare jewel in its original condition and not have this bit of enamel restored. This is certainly an option if desired.
