About the Item
An extremely large medallion brooch from the 1950s by New York fashion jewelry company Jeanne. Often Jeanne's creations are small and feature animals. This pieces in a very rare large scale design measureing 4.5 inches wide and high. The gold plated design is unique in the use of textured layered rings to create a cross medallion design. Furthermore, the brooch is accented with large faux pearl cabochons in the center and at the points. Each pearl is surrounded by a band of rhinestones to accent them. The back has an oval signature plaque inscribed Jeanne with a copyright symbol. Very very fine condition.
Jeanne Vintage Jewellery is quite rare and highly valued among the collectors. Sadly, there isn’t much information about the company. Born September 6, 1888, the future brand’s founder American jeweler Mark Dottenheim grew up in the family of Simon Dottenheim and Jennie Ullman in NYC. Mark founded his jewellery company in 1919. Labeled “Jeanne @”. His brooches, pins, earrings, and pendants have very interesting design and are perfectly executed. As most of costume jewellery designers of the time, he made his pieces from jewelry alloy. All items – gold plated, enameled, and decorated with rhinestones, artificial pearls, and transparent crystals. Mark Dottenheim died on January 14, 1960 in New York, the same place where he was born and had lived all his life. Unfortunately, the company has ceased to exist after the death of its founder.
