The brooch is stamped with maker's mark JAD, and dated with London hallmarks.
John Donald is a designer and goldsmith born in Surrey, England. Originally a student of graphic design, he moved to London in the early 1950s to study metalsmithing at the Royal College of Art. Setting up his first workshop in 1960, he established himself as one of London’s premier jewelers, and later opened retail stores in London and Geneva. In 2015, he published an autobiography, Precious Statements, and continues to create work by commission. Notable clients include Princess Margaret and Queen Elizabeth II.
