    A late Victorian Burmese ruby and diamond butterfly brooch, the thorax and wings set with old European and rose-cut diamonds weighing approximately 4 carats in total, the abdomen and eyes set with faceted rubies, weighing approximately 1.3 carats in total, accompanied by GCS Report stating to be of Burmese origin with no indications of heating, all mounted in silver and yellow gold, to yellow gold carved legs, circa 1880, measuring approximately 4.5 x 2.5cm, gross weight 9.2 grams. This antique brooch in excellent condition for its age. Unmarked tested as silver and 15ct gold. This stunning brooch comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. During the Victorian era, jewellery in the shape of insects was very popular.
