About the Item

Art Deco Leitão & Irmão Diamond, Emerald and Enamel Giardinetto Floral Brooch in Silver and Gold, Portugal, c. 1940, in original case, with a total gem weight of approximately 7.84ct. Designed as a stylized openwork giardinetto, the flowers grain- and millegrain-set with old-cut, single-cut and rose-cut diamonds, the leaves set with similarly-cut diamonds surrounding a black enamel core, the vase pave-set throughout with rose-cut diamonds and a row of channel-set calibre-cut emeralds, with two articulated diamond-set floral drops suspending below it. This antique brooch is fitted in its original maker's case. Main diamonds: 15; Old Mine-cut and Old European brilliant-cut; approximately 5.58 carats in total. Remaining diamonds: Rose-cut, Single-cut, Old Mine-cut and Old European brilliant-cut; approximately 2.01 carats in total. Emeralds: 18 stones; calibre-cut; approximately 0.25 carats in total. Maker's mark for Leitão & Irmão (reg. 1887); Lisbon assay mark "rooster head" for jewelry (used 1938-1984). Dimensions: 6.5 x 4.4 cm. Gross weight: 25.1g. This item is in good condition, with marks and scratches consistent with general age and wear. Antique, period and vintage pieces, both signed and unsigned, are being offered as worn.
