THIS IS A WONDERFUL RETRO MID-CENTURY MODERN ART POTTERY BROOCH BY THE CALIFORNIA MID-CENTURY ARTIST MIRIAM MOSS OF A WONDERFUL HORSE HEAD WITH FABULOUS TURQUOISE BLUE AND GOLD GLAZE. MIRIAM MOSS' CALIFORNIA ART POTTERY, JEWELRY, SCULPTURE AND ART HAS STUNNING MID-CENTURY DESIGN AND IS HIGHLY COVETED BY COLLECTORS OF CALIFORNIA ART POTTERY, MID-CENTURY ART AND MID-CENTURY JEWELRY. HER WORKS ARE RARE. THE HORSE BROOCH IS FROM THE BEL AIR ESTATE OF HOLLYWOOD LEGEND MARY LOU DAVES. IT IS ON ITS ORIGINAL CARD. THE BROOCH IS GLAZED POTTERY. WE HAVE SEVERAL OTHER PIECES BY MIRIAM MOSS FROM THE DAVE'S ESTATE. Provenance: The Moss brooch is from the Bel Air estate of Delmer and Mary Lou Daves where a who's who of Hollywood legends (Cole Porter entertained guests at the piano) were entertained. Their love story began on the set of the 1938 film, "Professor Beware." As a successful contract writer for Warner Bros., Delmer Daves wrote the screenplay and wanted to visit the set to see how things were going. 19-year-old, Mary Lawrence was cast as the Bride. He was instantly smitten. "So you're playing the bride? I wish you would marry me," he quipped. "I shall answer you with the same spirit you asked me. Of course I will be yours forever." The two were married for 39 years, had three children and a lifetime of adventures. His career spanned 40 years during which he wrote and/or directed 80 movies including: Love Affair (1939), Destination Tokyo (1943) , Hollywood Canteen (1944), Dark Passage (1947), Broken Arrow (1950), Birds of Paradise (1951), The Last Wagon (1956), An Affair to Remember (1957), 3:10 to Yuma (1957), Cowboy (1958), A Summer Place (1959), The Hanging Tree (1959) He was a genius, renaissance man, student and tinkerer. She had an enduring acting career in film and television and became an author in her later years rallying her famous friends to share their thoughts on famous art works in, "Lovers: 100 Works of Art Celebrating Romantic Love..." She was a lover of art, family, beauty, traveling, entertaining, fashion and many causes. The brooch is 2 1/4 inches tall by 2 inches wide. The brooch is on its original card.
