Reversible Lucky Horseshoe Stickpin with Bloodstone & Jasper-Scotland, 19th C
About the Item
Lucky Scottish sterling silver horseshoe stickpin. The hand engraved top set with green Bloodstone from the Isle of Rum and red Campsie Fells Jasper from Stirlingshire is hinged so that the horseshoe can be facing up or down. There are various opinions whether to face the horseshoe up or down for good luck. In the center of the horseshoe is the national emblem of Scotland a Thistle with its leaves . The pin stem is spiral formed to keep it in place.
There are no hallmarks on the stickpin, however, quite typical for Scottish jewelry of this period.
