A striking pair of gilt metal Austrian 'flower' brooches, 1950s.

About the Item

Two strong and striking gilt 'dahlia' brooches, in gilded metal, made in Austria in the 1960s. One brooch is twice as big as the other, but both of the same design, beautiful when worn together, or simple and strong, when worn individually. Both brooches are numbered '53', which is a sign of their Austrian origin, (as most jewels produced in Austria were, in general, numbered,) and is indicative of their year of manufacture.

  • A rare enamelled metal and paste 'Two Birds ' brooch, Trifari, USA, 1930s
    By Alfred Philippe for Trifari
    Located in Greyabbey, County Down
A beautifully crafted and highly sort after/collectable early piece from Trifari, an enchanting 'life in miniature', with two birds on a branch, with bird box. Cold enamelled and highlighted with pastes, it would be a great asset to any collection of costume jewellery, in particular, that of Trifari pieces, a jewel of great charm and warmth. It has the typical 'fur clip' fitting (a double pronged fitting), highly characteristic of Trifari jewels at this time. The firm of Trifari was founded in 1925 by Gustavo Trifari, Leo F...

A charming and amusing clear paste and paste pearl brooch, in the form of a 'poodle. Beautifully modeled, with a small red nose as a highlight, and a single pearl atop its tail, a large clear stone as its body, the pearl and paste combination make a perfect combination in this depiction of a poodle. A rare and whimsical Schreiner design! Henry Schreiner started the Schreiner Jewellery Company in 1939 and was director until his death in 1954. His daughter and son in law continued with the business until 1977. In the 1950s he made jewellery for Christian Dior. His jewellery is very distinctive for its use of unusual mounts and subtle colour combinations, using the finest quality rhinestones and crystals. He made exceptionally glamorous belts, bib necklaces, unusually coloured baroque brooches (his signature ‘ruffle’ brooch...
