Vintage Trifari Sterling Silver Vermeil Friendship Brooch & Clip 1940s

About the Item

A Trifari Sterling Vermeil (Solid Sterling Silver with a gold wash) Hand Fur Clip dating to the year of 1944. The designer of this Trifari Sterling Hand Brooch is the legendary Alfred Philippe. HIs pieces for Trifari are the most sought after of the Company's more than 90 year history. The Parisian born Alfred Philippe trained at the prestigious design school ‘L’Ecole Boulle.’ After emigrating to the US he worked as a fine jewellery designer for William Scheer Inc., one of the foremost manufacturing jewellers of the Art Deco era. Scheer created items for Cartier & Van Cleef & Arpels and Philippe was responsible for several full collections for these prestigious houses. Following the Crash in 1929, Philippe moved to Trifari as a designer, eventually becoming the head designer where he worked until his retirement in 1968. His fine jewellery experience strongly influenced his designs and jewellery manufacturing techniques and he is considered to have played perhaps the most significant role in the success of Trifari. Philippe designed the Trifari Hand in 1944 and variations on the theme can be found. This particular example features a rhinestone set laced Victorian Cuff and ring adorned hand. This clip measures approx. 5cm by 2.5cm and is in overall very good vintage condition. The images portray the gold wash more worn than it appears to the eye. This example is in very good condition compared to many on the market and has stood the test of time remarkably well. The rhinestones remain bright and sparkly and the blue and red stones are also in great condition. Marked clearly on the reverse with the Crown Trifari mark, sterling and the patent number this is a fabulous piece of genuine and innovative 1940s fashion jewellery.
