About the Item
Arrow brooch with letters C and X and a crown of pearl seeds. Victorian era.
An absolute rare and fine example of the wonderful Victorian epoch. There are so many fine details to be looking for, a magnificent crown on top holds the tiny natural Pearls. The way the letters interact as if written with a magic pen. Capital letter C with Rubies and capital X with Diamonds. Even the back side is decorated with arrow motives.
Once it was common to communicate a message via pin or brooch. Nowadays this art is lost, but we can surely start a new tradition. Former secretary of state Madeleine Albright published a fascinating book “Read My Pins” - a story and celebration of how one woman’s jewelry collection was used to make diplomatic history.
The brooch can be worn with an arrow facing any direction, so it can communicate different meanings. For example: facing up is a “yes”, while facing down is a “no”.
It is a truly great addition to the collection, something that never grows out of style and only gains value with each new page in its long history.
