Victorian Circular Blue Enamel, Pearl and Gold Brooch

About the Item

A Victorian circular blue enamel, pearl and gold brooch, the seventeen pearls set in the form of a cross to a blue enamelled background, surrounded by a yellow gold border with fine rope-work and wire decorations, with glass covered compartment to back and brooch fitting, circa 1860, measuring 4.4cm in diameter, gross weight 24.0 grams, This antique brooch is in excellent condition. Unmarked, tested as 18ct gold. This wonderful Victorian brooch is from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. This brooch is typical of High Victorian style, which incorporated ancient techniques with richly coloured enamel. Featuring blue enamel and lovely lustrous pearls set in a cross, this brooch also features fine gold wirework decorations, influenced by the techniques used in Etruscan jewellery. This fabulous piece would look excellent pinned to a wide lapel.
