Victorian Diamond-Set Star Brooch
About the Item
A Victorian diamond-set star brooch, to the centre an old european-cut diamond estimated to weigh 1.5 carats, surrounded by eight old-cut diamonds I the form of a form of a floral cluster, to a diamond-set eight ray star frame, with eight knife-edge bars each terminating to a single-diamond, the diamonds estimated to weigh 7.5 carats in total, all set in silver to yellow gold back, circa 1890, measuring approximately 4cm in diameter, gross weight 11.8 grams.
A Victorian brooch in very good condition. Unmarked tested as 18ct Gold and Silver.
A fabulous Belle Époque brooch, from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Celestial motifs were very popular in the Victorian era, and this brooch is a striking example of the popular late nineteenth-century star symbol and would be a handsome addition to a silk scarf or worn on a blouse.
