Victorian Era Large 18k Gold Garnet Enamel Grapes Brooch

About the Item

Sculptural, delightful and extremely skillfully crafted, this very rare and luxurious garnet grape brooch is among our favorite findings of the season! This “delicious” brooch features a bunch of grapes made of 13 garnet cabochons in juicy deep red color. Exactly like the grapes in real life, their sizes change gradually from the top to the bottom. The largest one measures 12mm*8mm; while the smallest one 9mm *5mm. They have shown an amazing harmony in color and in transparency, which is rare to see but is critical to judge the quality of a piece of jewelry. The garnet grapes are attached to a grape vine made of 18K yellow gold, with three delicate enameled leaves. They show a lovely vivid green color which complements marvelously the gold and red colors from the rest of the piece. We are truly impressed by all the details presented in this piece. And when we hold the brooch in hand, it is so lively that it makes us want to take a bite! The brooch dated back to the 19th century, the Victorian era. Grapes are a fruit which has many symbolisms such as the abundance, the fertility, and the good luck. This fruit’s intriguing history and seemingly timeless appeal make it an extremely popular symbol, with numerous interpretations of it popping up over the history. This brooch will be a wonderful piece to collect or to offer! Measurements and Condition No missing or choc on the enamel; No missing on the garnet; Traces of use on the cabochons’ surface French eagle’s head for 18K gold on the catch of the pin on the back + another hallmark which we did not identified. Some of the most endearing antique jewelry of every era feature little winged beings. Angels, or cherubs, embody sacred love, and may be understood as guardians. On the other hand, enameled jewelry is among the most researched jewelry items in the eyes of the antique jewelry collectors because it offers an almost infinite combination of craftsmanship and artistry across different themes and styles. In front of us a very refined French work Victorian era enameled brooch, featuring a loving winged angel/cherub (a charming, chubby child with wings). We love his mischievous yet very sweet smile, colorful touch of grace, the extreme attention to the details as well as its symbolism: It is a well-known secret language for love, courage and guidance in the Victorian era. The colors used in the enamel show softness and tenderness: the mix of the pastel tones such as rose, blue and green is calming while heartwarming. We also appreciate the elegant mounting of this piece: the central panel is mounted in a 18K gold floral frame...
